How to Measure Waist

Position the measuring tape at the mid-point of the last palpable rib and the top of the hip bone, making sure to wrap the tape over the same spot on the opposite side. Make sure to keep the tape snug but not tight enough to cause compression of the skin.

How to Measure Hip

Position the measuring tape around the maximum circumference of the buttocks. Make sure to keep the tape snug but not tight enough to cause compression of the skin.

Advice for All Stages

Stage 0
Identify factors contributing to increased body weight. Prevent further weight gain through lifestyle measures, including healthy eating and increased physical activity. Receive monitoring of risk factors and health status.
Stage 1
Receive investigation for other (non-weight-related) contributors to cardiovascular risk factors. Adopt more intense lifestyle interventions, including diet and exercise, to prevent further weight gain. Receive monitoring of risk factors and health status.
Stage 2
Consider initiating obesity treatments, including behavioural, pharmacological, and surgical options. Receive close monitoring and management of comorbidities as indicated
Stage 3
Consider more intensive obesity treatment, including behavioural, pharmacological and surgical treatment options. Aggressive management of comorbidities as indicated.
Stage 4
Consider aggressive obesity management as deemed feasible. Consider palliative measures, including pain management, occupational therapy and psychosocial support.
